I am a late bloomer. Although I have always been involved with creative activities, it is not until I was into my sixties that I began to concentrate on shaping my artistic niche. For thirteen years I was the director/lead artist of an arts organization serving women who were chronically homeless. I was happy to share my artistic concepts with the women, and when I saw how they flourished through creating and selling art, I wanted some of that for myself.
My mixed media sculptures generally take the form of dancers and are created from found and recycled objects. The assemblages consist of fiber/fabric (usually as the body) and some salvaged item such as old bed springs, rusty cans, zippers, bark and/or gnarled wood. Each design is determined by the shape and appearance of the recovered item.
