Featured Artists: Kirsten Walstead/Norma Hanlon

We are a mother – daughter team. We collaborate to create all our tile designs and murals. My mother, Norma began as a potter 35 years ago. I grew up in her ceramic studio playing with clay and doing many jobs for her as I got older. After I returned home from college, we began our new adventure in tile together. Now I am a mother and we are hoping to teach a third generation our craft.

Our tiles are hand made bas-relief ceramic tiles fired to the stoneware temperature of 2140 degrees (cone 4). We sculpt the original tile in coarse white clay, then we make a plaster mold of it. The finished tiles are then created by pressing the clay body into the plaster molds that we have created. We have made over a thousand tiles designs in the past decade. Our ideas are endless as our work is ever changing.
