Ceramics

While working as a Home Care Hospice Nurse, I began self exploration into clay in 1985. It allowed me self expression of joy and gratitude, a celebration of life. I am primarily self taught but have taken several workshops to expand my techniques.

My vibrant and intense colors are obtained by painting each piece a minimum of eight times with under glazes prior to the first firing. I then repeat this process with multiple applications of over glazes with additional firings to intensify color depth and saturation. Hand carved accents are added during the process to enhance the design.

Since I work independently in my studio I enjoy the time interacting with people at art fairs and exhibitions. Working with VSA of Indiana allows me to combine my art and previous nursing career by teaching clay at Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital. It is a gift to be able to make a living doing something I truly enjoy at all levels.
