My work has been described as quilting with glass, though in simple terms, it is glass on glass mosaic. I draw a pattern and then cut or snip sheet glass to the desired shapes. I also use elements that I have fused in my kiln. These range from simple drops to more intricate bargello strips. In much of my work, I also incorporate glass saucers and beads to add depth. Most pieces are finished with grout, which enhances the colors. I love to use old windows and barn wood as the base of my work.

Handwoven, Hand-dyed scarves and shawls woven with silk and other fine natural fibers. I believe that what you wear can lift you spirits and improve your outlook, so I am proud to be able to create art that is both decorative and functional. After a dozen years of experimenting with color, fibers, and structure, I’ve narrowed my focus to weaving contemporary scarves and shawls, combining an age-old craft with current tools.

Using all natural yarns, silks, cotton, rayon, and wools, I dye using color fast environmentally friendly pigments before warping the looms. I have one eight-harness and two sixteen- harness looms that allow me to weave intricate structures and patterns that compliment my color schemes. These looms are all hand and foot powered, just as looms of the past. I use a computer to draft my unique complex designs to create contemporary scarves and shawls for today’s consumer.

I sew versatile skirts made from quality knit fabrics using several custom designs. The A-line design skirt skims over hips for a flattering and comfortable fit. A wide waistband has an adjustable elastic tie with toggle closure. I also have a new custom 6-panel design with deep built in pockets and a wider waistband. All fabrics are of excellent quality and some are vintage. I personally select the fabrics and cut and sew the skirts. There is no manufacturer or middleman involved.

Like origami on fabric garments are pleated, scrunched, clamped and tied to create one of a kind designs on silk, cotton, rayon and velvet. I custom mix all fiber reactive dyes from primary colors to express the beautiful range of vibrant hues all around us. I draw inspiration from the subtle contrasts in nature and hope that my joy in my work resonates with people and speaks to the inner joy in all of us.

I make hand-crafted one-of-a-kind bags, totes, and wares made out of reclaimed, repurposed, and historical fabrics and textiles. These often include military canvas, denim, and leather, and are enhanced with beautiful materials like vintage kilim rugs, Kantha quilts, Native American weavings, and, many others. I strive to incorporate vintage style into useful, stylish and durable items for everyday life. I take great care in the design and construction of every piece I make, providing the most unique, authentic and useful product that I can.

These “Circular Meditations” are a series of 54 pen & ink drawings completed in a three week drawing binge. The title of the series refers to the near meditative state that I found while working on these drawings. The drawings are numbered chronologically. I was exploring circular/ovate forms as an artistic exercise, adhering to several arbitrary “procedural rules.” With intention, I created variant drawings, exploring techniques and forms. Hundreds of thousands of “circles” drawn.

I make State Icons, which are digital illustrations of U.S. landmarks in handmade frames. I draw each one—at the small size that it's displayed—with a mouse. The archival-quality giclée prints are created in my studio, and finished in frames that are made by my parents. I also make other items that feature my State Icon illustrations, such as zip pouches, larger matted prints, candles, pot holders, and note cards.

2017 booth # 67D

Uptown Clay is a collaborative of 15 ceramic artists working in clay on Harriet Ave. just off the Midtown Greenway. We represent a gamut of ages, genders, and viewpoints with the shared objective of creating work in the ceramic medium. Most of us create functional ceramics, using a variety of techniques to arrive at a finished product. All of us are part time artists, who live and work in the urban neighborhood. Our work is sold selectively at a handful of shows.

For the Loring Park Art Festival we will feature the work of two artists; Jon Loer and Sheryl Grassie. Sheryl creates stoneware ceramics on the pottery wheel, while Jon’s work is primarily hand built or cast ceramics. Both of these artists has been practicing their craft for over 20 years and have not sold at the Loring Park Art Festival before. Our price points range from $5.00- $60.00. Our modestly priced work is meant to be used and enjoyed by people in their daily lives.

I create wheel-thrown functional pottery using primarily white stoneware. Experimenting with various forms and glazes keeps me enamored with the limitless possibilities of clay. I enjoy contrasting colors and textures within a piece. Recently, I have been inspired by building materials. I have been incorporating the patterns, textures, and repetition of tiles and flooring in my work. Sometimes this is accomplished by pressing a pattern into clay, painting, or spraying on glazes. My works have a finished quality to them; they are light, trimmed, and fired to cone 6.
