2017 booth # 109

I am a book artist and painter. I use old, discarded and broken books as the foundation for my work and a way to merge my seeming separate choice of mediums. The covers from a book with a broken spine are rebound to become sketchbooks, albums, or journals. The text block becomes collage material for a painting. Pages from a book about the Boundary Waters become a lake, the book cloth becomes the hills in the background and the end pages become the grass on the shore. The interest in reuse and salvage finds it’s way into the foundations of the paintings as well. An old window frame or scrap wood are a lovely foundation for a painting. I see beauty in taking something bound for the landfill and making it worthy of hanging in someone's home.
