Nature is full of vast, yet intimate spiritual spaces. To translate this power through realism, I use new techniques in needle-felting, guided by emotion in color and created one wisp at a time until the image becomes fabric. Completed wool landscapes are then set in sculptural wood framing. Reclaimed barn siding, found objects and live-edge slabs serve to both protect and amplify the textile imagery, creating an organic dialogue of materials.

My mixed media sculptures generally take the form of dancers and are created from found and recycled objects. The assemblages consist of fiber/fabric (usually as the body) and some salvaged item(s) such as old bed springs, rusty cans, zippers, bark and/or gnarled wood. Each design is determined by the shape and appearance of the recovered item.

I create handmade leather bound journals using book blocks which I make from a variety of papers including professional grade watercolor paper and a 70lb archival paper that is perfect for both writing and sketching. I then cover each book block in one of my many re-purposed leathers and bind the pages to the cover using the German longstitch method. The covers feature a variety of designs that I create using image transfers of my own photos, block printing, ceramic buttons, skeleton keys and drift wood. I also create mini journal jewelry using the paper and leather scraps leftover from my larger projects as a way to make sure nothing goes to waste.

All about enhanced color, drama, light, fantasy, movement, emotion - my original photographs transition from realistic presentation to an almost abstract derivative surrealism – all for others to experience my emotional re-discovery of these unforgettable experiences.
All entirely produced in my studio, each image is a unique single edition work printed on metallic photographic paper laminated directly to UV filtering acrylic and backed by another opaque layer of acrylic – an expensive risk-ridden process.

I am inspired by the natural world (most often the woods, water, and trees of the midwest) and how we look for and find ways to connect with each other through art and nature. I’m interested in documenting moments of quiet, joy, solitude, and locations that allow for introspection. I collect ideas and reference images while paddling, hiking, swimming and in creative communities. Those observed moments or scenes are distilled to memory. Paint and paper (both papers I have painted or decorated myself and found paper that might include text, maps or end pages from salvaged books) are my materials of choice. Drawing, painting, gluing and cutting are used interchangeably in my practice. I build layers with collage and/or paint that are mounted to a surface (most often wood panels). I simplify forms and shapes to create bold, graphic compositions. I love the evidence of the human hand in work, a wonky line or subtle imperfections speak to the human behind the work and I delight in it.

I paint from real life and photograph the same scene as I am painting. To create a digital image of the painting, I photograph it with a high resolution camera and download in my computer the painting and photographs. Using computer software I blend the painting with photographs, or parts of photographs, sometimes drawing and often scans of pallets I have used to mix paint. I print using a wide format printer with archival ink and paper.

We create silk scarves in the booth at the show, using an old fashioned water marbling process. Acrylic paints are floated upon a liquid medium, manipulated into design with comb and stylus and captured instantly on white, habotai silk. Each piece is a one of a kind original. We encourage showgoers to participate in the creation of their own scarf, becoming a true, interactive art experience.
Additionally we offer for sale originals created in my studio, using several different sizes and types of silk.

My motto is Re-use and Amuse! I create whimsical characters out of scrap metal, found objects, old tools, and kitchenware using the oxyacetylene method of welding at the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center in Minneapolis. I enjoy hunting high and low to find “gems” at local scrap dealers, estate sales, friends’ castoffs, and truly found objects. My whimsical sculptures are friendly to the environment, unique, and generate smiles. I often laugh out loud while creating them. My goal is to share the fun and whimsy with others through my art.
In 2017 Butter Café of South Minneapolis commissioned a 4’x4’ butterfly sculpture. In 2016 I was interviewed by a local TV station www.fox9.com titled Artist Gives New Life To Scrap Metal. In 2014 and 2018 I won second place at the Minnesota State Fair Creative Activities Competition – Metal.

Intricately cut and roller formed aluminum Tig welded to create "abstract shape accumulations" that hover with dimension over a background of patinated copper, enameled steel using a sqraffito technique and also leather. The elements are all tied together with my hand fabricated Tig welded frames.
